Since its inception, MagLev has been the subject of numerous talks, impressive demonstrations, and lots of interest. Many people are interested in running Ruby and Rails applications on a state of the art Smalltalk VM, but adoption has been slow, in part due to to a lack of examples of real world usage. This talk will solve that problem.

In 2013, we started moving our financial applications at VersaPay Corporation to MagLev and are excited to tell you about it!

In this talk we’ll go over the reasons behind, the methods employed, and the barriers to, moving our Sinatra and Rails apps on Ruby Enterprise and MySQL to MagLev and GemStone/S. You’ll learn lots about separating and maintaining applications, and you’ll have a real-world example to point your boss to when you suggest moving your own project to MagLev.
